The day we drilled a bore

Drilling bore Clover Park Stannum June 2014

Praise God they found water on our farm. Water has always been a limiting factor on our small farm, and having access to a reliable water source has always been a dream. However, last week that dream became a reality when we found a good stream in fractured basalt at 24 metres. All we need to do now is put down the submersible pump and we will once again be able to flush the toilet like normal people!

On a more serious and practical note, this bore provides us with a powerful tool to protect the biosecurity of our breeding operation by removing our reliance on captured rain water. Biosecurity is of vital importance to us, particularly with the increasing focus on the perceived role of extensive poultry production in the spread and prevalence of avian influenza (a topic for another discussion!)
